Presentation: Hacking Recovery: Brainstem Stroke
This talk was just delivered at DerbyCon 2018! Learn how the presenter ‘hacked her brain and body’ using the body’s electrical system to create and develop a new internal platform to recover from a brainstem stroke and traumatic brain injury. The presenter explains how she had to relearn or craft new ways to do many things, from breathing to using each limb to reading, and how the intergation of technology was key. The presenter identifies ‘crossovers’ to pentesting, incident response, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
Following a series of five strokes and major head injuries, Mandy Logan had to relearn everything, from breathing to motor skills. Today she is pursuing learning all things infosec, with interests in incident response, neural integration, bioethics, and artifical intelligence. Once in a wheelchair, she now walks and enjoys art, but she still requires lots of rest and the support of her service dog, Trevor.
